June 2013

Hi Friends. I'm sorry that I have been missing from this little place lately. We have been doing lots of stuff! June has been a crazy and relaxing month, with tons of stuff going on.

We have gone to a couple of local festivals in the area. Norfolk has a great group called FestEvents that sets up something almost every weekend. There was Harbor Fest, a Bayou Boogaloo, and there will be so many more to come this summer. Most of it is free to the public, and it is a great way to get out and walk around. I love the downtown area here, and I also love me a festival. Win-Win.

Have I mentioned before that we live, like 2 blocks from the beach? Yeah that's the Chesapeake Bay. I haven't really caught any rays, but it has been nice to just enjoy the views. We always go to this little dive bar that has a deck on the beach to enjoy the sunsets. It's such a nice way to unwind after a long week (or day!) at work.

We visited the O'Connor brewery in downtown Norfolk and saw the actual beer that we drink being made! There are so many local businesses in our area that we love to support, and it was really cool to be able to go and see one in production. It was totally free to just walk in, and they were serving their beers at a little bar. The atmosphere was really relaxed, and the owners answered lots of our questions.

Speaking of supporting local businesses, this summer we have been trying to expand our foodie horizons. We have been mostly trying to stay with locally owned and operated businesses. There are SO many good places in this area. It's almost ridiculous. There's also a lot of Diner's Drive-In's and Dive's here, which is really cool to have a large concentration in one area. I have an ongoing list of places on my phone, and we usually go out about twice a week to try new things.

We also took a trip to Baltimore to see some friends and go to a Red Sox game! That deserves a post of it's own, so I wont waste time here telling you about it. :)

This month has been crazy, happy, fun, sometimes frustrating, and very hot. A huge mix of emotions. But really when you look back on it, you wouldn't have it any other way. July will bring me some time off of work, where I am going to look for a new apartment for us (!!), and work on some things around the house. And of course the fourth of July, which is my FAVORITE holiday because I love barbeques and fireworks.

I hope your month of June was as crazy as mine was!
