HANDWRITTEN LYRIC ART

Hello Friends!

We re-arranged our apartment last weekend, and I realized that I never shared this cute little DIY project. I made this for Dave for Christmas this year, and it is currently hanging in our living room.

I had wanting to make something that included the lyrics to "our song" somehow. There were a few different options, but I thought something personal that could be displayed for a long time would be best.

Our song is "You Send Me" by Sam Cooke. It has been our song for YEARS, so I am very sentimental about it.

This project was very easy (and surprisingly very cheap). To start, I wrote the lyrics to the song out on a piece of computer paper. I used a sharpie, because I wanted the words to show up when I eventually put the handwriting through the copy machine.
Once the song lyrics were spaced how I wanted them to be, I put them through the copy machine and set it to reverse contrast. This allows the image or text that you copy to print in reverse (black becomes white; white becomes black).

I put the new reverse image in a fancy frame that I thrifted, and called this present done!

Even though this present was extremely inexpensive, and homemade, Dave LOVED it. It meant more to him that I took the time to make this for him, and that it was the lyrics of "our song."This could be easily done with song lyrics, wedding vows, a prayer, or really any text that you would like to feature.

Have you created sentimental art lately? If so, I'd love to see it! I'm a sucker for that stuff!

  2. I love this idea. I didn't know copier machines had a "reverse contrast" feature. I recently made some silhouettes of my kids for wall art, but I would love to do this with excerpts from some of my favorite books.

    1. That would look great! Please send me a link so that I can see if you decide to do the project!

I do a LOT of copying for work, so I know all the ins and outs of our machine :)
