ROCHESTER INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL

While I was visiting my family in Rochester, we got to spend one evening at the Rochester International Jazz Festival. We went to see some of the free shows on the outdoor stage that they have set up on streets that are blocked off for most of the festival.

My Mom, Dad, little sister and I brought chairs and watched a couple of groups perform while we ate dinner from food trucks and other vendors. It was super crowded, but turned out to be a really fun night relaxing, eating, listening to good music and just enjoying each other's company.

To eat I got beans and greens with fried artichoke hearts. It. was. amazing. Rochester has a very big Italian-American population, and you can certainly tell by the food. I especially loved the artichoke hearts. They were full of flavor, and serving them with the greens and beans caused them to soak up a lot of those delicious juices.

We saw a couple of high schools play, and then this school, which was made of kids of all ages. They were SO talented--it was amazing. These kids, who couldn't be more than 10 years old were playing jazz solos on their instruments. I kept telling my Dad that the one boy played the "yazz flute" very well. He didn't get it.

We had a wonderful time. It was nice to be able to enjoy the nice weather and to spend some time enjoying music with my family.

Have you been to any free music festivals this summer? What did you enjoy about them?

  1. Sounds like you had a wonderful time. We used to go to a lot of music type fesitvals when we lived in Florida but, not so much here. Miss them though.

    1. It was a wonderful time! I actually live in Norfolk, VA where there is a lot more of this going on, but it was fun to experience it with my family.
