This is one of those projects that has been staring me in the face for about a year, and I just thought about writing about it. People that have come to our apartment for various reasons even compliment me on it sometimes.

It was one of those things that was done half because we needed something to hang Dave's vintage David Bowie print on, and half because I we were stuck inside one day due to hurricane Sandy. I even had the photos on my point and shoot, so I knew that I should write about it while I was getting ready to go on vacation this week.

First of all, I gathered my materials. I already had everything that I needed because I was kind of preparing to make this. Hurricanes don't exactly catch you off guard. I bought a set of two canvas boards and some paint that coordinated with the print at Michaels (so that I could use the 40% off coupon on the canvases).

My inspiration for the circle pattern was this image on Pinterest. To make all the circles, I used different bottle caps, and just dipped and stamped them. I liked the texture they made as well as how they left a lot of white negative space on the canvas.

I simply used some binder clips to attach the print to the canvas, and now it is sitting on our art shelf above our TV. I love that this provides an interesting and unique background for Dave's vintage print, and it was also easy and inexpensive to make.

I'd love to see if you make any easy art mats! I'm linking up with:
