easy diy state mug, sharpie project

One of my go-to gift ideas are mugs. They are pretty cheap, can be easily customized, and you can fill them with gift cards, candies, or other small gifts. I usually like to put a little bit of confetti or Easter grass in the bottom and then wrap them in the little cellophane gift bags with some ribbon.

When I found out that July's (really August but it felt like July) insta-swap theme was Home Sweet Home, I knew that I wanted to make her a mug with her home state of Oklahoma on it.

I'm not going to go in depth with this tutorial, because there are a million and four on Pinterest, but I simply found a map of Oklahoma online, cut it out, and taped it to the mug so that I could trace it.

Once I had the outline, I started stippling with a sharpie making the dots closest together near the outline of the state, and getting farther apart the farther away it went. Once I was done, I baked the mug on 350 for about 30 minutes. This is something you will want to hand wash.

I love how it turned out, and I will definitely think about making something with silhouettes like this again. Have you ever tried this project from Pinterest? Were you successful?
