OUR WEEKEND TRIP TO RICHMOND, VA

Last weekend Dave and I decided that we would be adventurous for once and would go explore a nearby city. I was in Richmond for work on Friday night and Sunday afternoon, so we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to grab a hotel room and spend the day together on Saturday.

In the couple of days leading up to our short trip, we tossed around a few "musts" that we wanted to do. Dave wanted to go record shopping, of course. I wanted to eat delicious things and window shop.

Our first stop was at Deep Groove Records in The Fan. It was a teeny tiny little shop, so while Dave looked at and bought some things, I walked around and grabbed coffee. I even stopped in a vintage shop where they had so. many. cute. dresses. Just as I was trying this cute brown polka dot one on... the power went out. And I couldn't buy it. #whomp

Around then it was lunch time. Dave wanted to walk around and find the best place who's "smell enticed him the most." Are you kidding me? I wanted to walk to somewhere with a good Yelp review. We finally settled on Kuba Kuba, which is a local Cuban restaurant, where everything is so fresh and tasty.

Dave had a Cuban sandwich with a side of plantains, and I had the Maria Elena with a side of fried plantains. At first this sandwich sounded a little bit weird, but then I tried it, and it was like heaven in my mouth. It was a panini of grilled turkey, cream cheese and strawberry preserves. Delish. We also shared some empanadas to start, but clearly were too ravenous from walking to take a picture.

Then we walked around for the rest of the afternoon and early into the evening. Richmond has some of the prettiest neighborhoods. We shopped around Downtown, Carytown, Uptown and more of The Fan. I dressed up a little bit for the occasion in the cutest dress that was sent to me by eShakti! More on that later! :)

When the sun went down it got really cold. I was surprised at the drop in temperature. We were walking around Carytown, and had to stop in to Capitol Coffee and Desserts to get some coffees to warm us up. I can never go wrong with plain ol' coffee with cream.

We walked around a little bit more and I picked a couple of things up from the cutest consignment shop. Seriously, they had a full chalkboard wall across the back and tons of awesome handmade accessories.

I think that if I was filthy stinking rich and could do anything I wanted, I would have a little shop in an urban area of a midsize city. It would be so fun to stock the shop with things I like and decorate all the time.::sigh:: If only....

This was such a fun little get away trip. We each got to do what we wanted. Records: check. Delicious foods and window shopping: check. Everyone wins, and we got to see a beautiful city that is practically right down the street from us.

Until next time, Richmond.
