Beautiful Mess Link Up: A Day In My (real) Life

Hey everyone! Thanks so much for joining us for our fun link up! I am so glad you're here!! We chose this prompt, because we wanted to see some of the beauty (and honestly, the reality) of our lives as bloggers. Too often you only see the "perfect" image of what bloggers lives are like, and that is just truly not the case. 

I know I am guilty of overly staged photos (even though literally every single photo that has ever been seen on this blog is a cell phone picture. Not lying). But the reality of life is that not everything is "pinterest ready." Sometimes most days I struggle to make it out the door looking presentable enough for the office. 

So here is a glance at what a normal weekday looks like for me. Disclaimer: I had to take some of these photos on separate days (Thursday and Friday), because I am so scatterbrained/busy sometimes that I couldn't remember to take enough photos in a day. #bloggerprobs

Morning time. I try to wake up around 6:30 or 7. I know this sounds SO late to a lot of you, but for me I feel like I'm peeling myself out of bed. I have been making myself eat breakfast before work lately (I used to take something in the car), and my favorite is overnight oats. I prepare this ahead every night, by mixing 1/2c. oats and usually 2/3c. almond milk. I like to add a little bit of honey for sweetness and berries if we have any. Perfect to get me through till lunch.

This is a perfect example of "real life." This is what my dresser looks like after I am done doing my makeup (and this doesn't even look that bad!) Some of my makeup favorites lately are the Tarte Amazonian Clay liquid foundation, the Naked2 palette and the Younique 3D Fiberlash Mascara. I've been thinking about doing a daily makeup post, would you be interested in that?

I got to work, and my cubicle was jacked full of stuff. Since it's the summer, we are trying to get tons of stuff done in the "off season" time, including cleaning a bunch of stuff out. I seem to be housing a lot of it in the interim.

I usually bring my coffee to work with me from home, or drink some from the office pot. However. I ran out of my favorite hazelnut cream k-cups (which I brew, and then make iced coffee in the summer), so I stopped and got Starbucks. Since my routine was messed up, it seemed only fair.

I also stopped and picked up a cobb salad at Chik-Fil-A for lunch. I'm not a huge fan of Chik-Fil-A, but they are the closest place to my work that has good salad. I tweeted a little bit during lunch, and tried to catch up on blog reading. My bloglovin has over 400 unread, and I feel like I'm missing so many things!!

During our busy season at work (which is late August through early May) I could be at work anywhere until 6:30 or 7pm plus extra on weekends. But now that we are in the off season, I am really just working 9-5. I love my job, but the hours do get exhausting sometimes. 

When I left work there was this huge storm coming in. Thankfully I got into my car just in time for it to start pouring!! It has been so hot here for the past two weeks, the rain is just what we needed for it to cool down. As long as it doesn't rain too much (it floods so quickly here!), I'll take rain any day.

I seriously hate going to the gym, but I need to get my rear in gear for my wedding next summer. Dave has lost almost 90 lbs, and I need to get working, before he shows me up!!! Lately I've been following the weekly schedules from Tone it Up, and I seriously feel amazing. This day I did the Under the Sea Workout, Sunkissed Abs, and I also did HIITy Bitty Bikini (because I really like it!). I haven't bought the plan or anything, but you can find all this on their website and on youtube if you want to follow along!!

Dave and I usually have quiet weeknights, where we eat and watch some TV. We like to have some quiet time after the long work day, and then being at the gym. I am usually in bed by 10 or 10:30 to do it all again the next day. 

I hope you've enjoyed reading about my everyday life, complete with messes! It was actually really fun to write!! I can't wait to see what everyone else's day looks like!

  1. We have so much in common... I felt like I was reading my post just now! I need to check out your workouts because I am burned out on mine! And I would love to see a makeup post from you! I haven't tried Tarte's liquid foundation- do you love it? I use the powder but need a change.

  2. Ummm, yes I would love a current makeup routine post!! I *think* I spy the L'Oreal makeup spray there, do you like it?? I bought it but haven't used it enough to decide if it works or not. All I know is that my skin is NOT liking this hit, I'm literally an oil slicked face by 10am.

  3. I do like it! It is the first makeup spray I've used, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I got it in one of the Target Beauty Boxes, which are an amazing value if you ever get a chance to try them. I am ALL about the powder lately. I want to try that true matte powder, (or something like that!) Also, I've found that using oil based cleanser does WONDERS for my oily skin. I use Josie Maran, but there are tons of other good ones too.

  4. I seriously was thinking the same thing when I was reading yours!! Check out tone it up. They make it really easy to switch up muscle groups, and they embed their youtube videos right to the site.

    I switched to the liquid foundation from the powder because the powder I had was actually a little too light for my face. I love both, but I find the liquid gives a better coverage. I do have to use a powder still.

  6. I LOVE ChicFilA salads...they're pretty much my favorite thing there. I love makeup posts, so I vote YES! I also want to check out those workouts, especially since they're free! Have a great week girl!

  8. I would LOVE to see a makeup post! And, I've been thinking about starting some of the Tone it up workouts when I get back from vacation, i'm glad you're liking them!

  10. First of all, I wake up at 4:50 most mornings but there is NOTHING that is not early about 6:30-7am. I will never, ever be a morning person.

    Also your gym face looks very similar to mine haha.
