What I've Been Reading... January 2016

Happy Friday, friends! Today I'm excited to join in with Michelle from Blogs Like a Girl for her Reading Lately link up. I've read a bunch this month, and hope to keep that momentum going. I really want to reach my goal of reading 40 books this year!

Isabella: The Warrior Queen by Kirstin Downey
This was a different choice for me, as I am not usually one to read a non-fiction book that isn’t a memoir or self-help in some way. This was recommended to me through Audible, and I’m really glad that I read it. It sheds light on the Queen who is most known for sending Columbus to the Americas. There is a lot of talk about the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition and court politics.

Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote
To be honest…I picked this book up because it was short. I finished it in one sitting. I know a lot of people love this book, but I didn’t think it was anything great. I might be biased because we live in the 21st century and this was written in the 50s , but it was kind of racist and misogynist. I enjoyed the character of Holly Golightly, but the plot seemed a little bit improbable.

The Other Daughter by Lauren Willig
I really enjoyed this book. This was another one that was recommended to me through audible, and my past purchases. I have never really read anything about English society during this period, so it was very interesting to me. I was a little bit surprised with how it ended, but I thought it was a good ending anyway.

Pretty Baby by Mary Kubica
I picked this because I read The Good Girl this winter. I really enjoyed The Good Girl, so I decided to give this a shot. I like how Kubica writes in different people’s points of view, about similar situations. I am about 1/3 of the way through this right now.

Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling
I recieved this book for free from Blogging for Books. I loved reading Kaling’s first memoir Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, so I knew I would enjoy this. I am just started reading it, after putting it down a few months ago. If I like this one as much as the first, I am in for a treat.

What are you reading lately? Any good recommendations?
