I'm not really a huge TV watcher. I used to be, but we decided to live without cable a few years ago, and have never looked back. I still watch lots of shows, but they are all on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube. Here's a look at some of my favorites.
How I Met Your Mother – This show was introduced to me by a friend, because he thought that Dave and I act a little bit like Lilly and Marshall. I can see it a little bit. I binge watched this series from beginning to end
Downton Abbey – I am such a sucker for period dramas. I have laughed and cried with these characters. We recently had a minor hiccup with our Netflix DVD subscription, but now we are back on track so that I can finish the series!
Friends – I have to be honest… I just started watching this in sequence. I remember it being on TV when I was growing up, but never really paid attention. But it is hilarious! I’m getting excited for the re-boot.
Nurse Jackie – This was recommended to me from Netflix. At first, I thought it would be light, but it is NOT. Jackie is a flawed character, which I think makes her relatable. We may not all be ER nurses, or have a drug addiction, but the storyline and characters seem like real life.
The Flash – I am seriously a big nerd. Dave and I started watching this together, and I watched ahead a little bit. This show is a little hokey, but I love superhero shows. I really liked that this series shows the Flash’s origins.
Gotham – Another awesome superhero show. The world created in this series is very full and diverse. I also love how you watch a young Bruce Wayne figure himself out before he becomes Batman. I’ve only watched the 1st season of this, but I can’t wait to catch up.
Law and Order – How could this not be on my favorites list. When I was in high school, I used to watch Law and Order SVU every day after school. The detectives are great, and so are the plot lines. I have to admit, that sometimes the crimes seem a little too realistic. Creepy.
Sherlock – I think Benedict Cumberbatch is amazing in this role. I just started watching season 3, and was reminded of why I like it so much. The combination of drama, science and crime is perfect. This makes me want to read some of the original Sherlock Holmes books.
The Borgias – Again, an awesome period piece. This is not for the faint of heart, as there is a lot of violence and sex. I’ve read a couple things about the Borgias, and poisoning and stuff like that, so this is a show that I like to watch. It is pretty heavy, so I don’t binge it.
The Tudors – I LOVED this show. When I was in college, I was obsessed with Henry VIII and his wives. I read and watched a ton of stuff about him. When this series came out, I could not stop. I might go back and watch again, because I love Natalie Dormer, and she is great as Anne Boleyn.
Game of Thrones – Since we watch this through Netflix DVDs, and there are only 2 episodes per DVD, I haven’t been able to binge this. I loved the books, and love how the TV show brings the characters and places to life. I know I’m not alone in this, but my favorite characters are Arya and Tyrion.
What TV shows are your favorite? I'd love some recommendations!
