A Letter to My Baby Sister on Growing Up

I talked to my sister Caroline on the phone last week, and it all of a sudden hit me. She is growing up. She is 9 going on 19, and has such a vibrant personality. She is starting to have some “growing pains” and is much more of a tween than ever.

I wish only the very, very best for my girl as she starts the beginning of what for many can be a rough time in life.

Dear Caroline,

You are such a blessing to our family. When you were born, everyone was so excited to meet you, and we would fight over who got to hold you next. You were such a good baby, and were so funny.

It has been hard for me to not be there while you grow up. Every time I come home, it seems like you are a foot taller! You are learning so many things, and always surprise me with the funny things that come out of your mouth.

But you are getting older, baby girl. You are going to be in 5th grade next year, and then middle school! Your body is changing, and I know that can be hard. Your friends are changing, and that is weird. You might start to like someone as more than a friend soon.

But my sweet Care, please don’t rush to grow up. You are such a sweet and sensitive girl, and you should never lose that. Be the strong, smart young lady you are. All the other stuff can wait.

Please know that I (and Vava and Brother and Mommy and Daddy) will always be here when you want to chat. I told you the other night, and I meant it that I am always a phone call away, and you can call me any time.

I can’t wait to see you grow up and continue to become the wonderful person you are. I love you so munch Care Baby!
