#teamwhywedding: The Speeches

After Dave and I danced our first dance, it was time to sit down and hear some speeches before we ate dinner. We wanted to keep the speeches to a minimum, so only the MOH and Best Man gave speeches, and then my dad gave a short little welcome speech.

As a wedding guest, I think it is so annnoying when the MOH or best man give extremely long speeches. Everyone wants to eat, and you are making fun of the bride/groom. So that was the only thing I told my sister and Dave's BFF. I was a tiny bit nervous about what they'd say, but it turned out so nice.

My sister sent me a copy of her speech (which I cried through at the reception), and I love having it written down to be able to go back and remember.

When I was trying to figure out what to say in my speech, all I could think was… Alex and Dave, Duh. This is the wedding we’ve all been waiting a very long time for!
I’m not going to lie to you, at first I wasn’t a fan of Dave – That’s only because from the beginning he was like the big brother I never had. He thrived on picking on me and making fun of me. Well, not only me but my brother Daniel as well. Which, actually, hasn’t stopped.
Then in my junior year of high school, Dave got me my very first job at Carbone's Pizzeria. Working with him and hanging out with him at Carbones family parties allowed me to actually get to know him. He was much more than my sister’s annoying boyfriend and became my friend too.
I’ve grown up watching them go from friends in middle school, when Dave set Al up with his best friend at the time, to dating, to breaking up for like a month until she cried in the bathroom at the senior prom, to going to college in different states, to Alex moving to Virginia alone, and eventually to Dave moving with her so they could finally be together like they should.
I’ve watched them go through a lot and they’ve always stood by each other and knew that things were going to be okay. Like when Alex went through a phase of CONSTANTLY crying about nothing (or maybe something small), Dave would be there to calm her down, and also tell her that she was being ridiculous. Or the romantic way they would fart on each other while cuddling in my parent’s den. I’ve always known they were meant for each other.
I tell people that you marry your best friend, and their relationship is why I believe that. They’ve shown me, and proven to us all that two best friends in love can overcome anything. And I’ve been lucky enough to see that it’s the most incredible love there is. The bond that they have is a beautiful thing and truly inspires me.
Al: I know Dave loves you with all of his heart, and he doesn’t take you even a bit for granted. He appreciates you for being the woman that you are, and for helping to make him into the man he is today. Neither of us knows what he would do without you.
Dave: I want to thank you for always loving my sister unconditionally, and for being the other half she needs. Even though I didn’t always like it, thank you for being my finally official older brother. And even though you rip on me all the time, I wouldn’t want anyone else to join our family.
I love the both of you to death, and I know that you guys are going to have a killer future together. Thanks for letting me be a part of this day, and I can’t wait for you to have babies. :)
